Google Earth

This is an example of one of my teaching disciplines, Business Management/Accounting, showing how I would use Web 2.0 technology, such as Google Earth, to engage my learners.

The Task:
Students must construct a Google Earth virtual world tour to the home of the listed stock market indices including other data as required within the task briefing.

Task Briefing:
Identify the homelands for the following stock market indices:
  • DJIA ; TSX
  • Nasdaq ; FTSE 100
  • DAX ; S & P 500 ; Sensex
  • Nikkei ; Hang Seng ; NZX 50 ; Nifty

• Start from Australia, and record the shortest route to guide this world tour.
• Combine flight and street views with global awareness.
• Apply YouTube video as available within the tour (if accessible)
• Ensure there is a pictorial of each stock exchange. This may be a Street view, YouTube video or other photo of the exchange. Explore the tools available within Google Earth to achieve this.
• Ensure the tour includes a text document summarising the history or important facts about each exchange. Again, Google Earth provides some tools/options to enable this.
• Ensure the tour includes a verbal narration of the tour in support of other visual information. Refer to Google Earth help menu to learn about setting up this process. Ensure narrative is concise and brief.
• Post a link to this tour on your personal learning blog under this subject.
• Share the link with your group (as arranged in class).
• Provide feedback on your at least two of your peers blogs.
• Invite others to leave comments on your blog.
• Invite at least one adult, external of your class, to review your tour and provide feedback on your blog.
• Make a final reflective posting to your blog on this experience and share all with your teacher.
